This was us in the audition gig at Freedom Bar. This one went well. Lots of people went. Thanks to my high school classmates and AIM classmates who went. It was fun. I'm the one at the far left. Of course, the spotlight was on Eman.

Our gig was really great. A great big THANK YOU to all the people who went. I had my classmates, friends from high school, my cousin, and assorted others who went. I think that the Freedom Bar management liked our stuff and they are booking us for Sept. 1 for another gig. I'll post the pictures of our last gig in a few days and I'll post the details of the new gig after practice this week.

Striking a balance . . .

I think the hardest thing for me and a lot of my bandmates is striking a balance between our ambitions for the band and our own work outside the band. I'm currently taking my masters and its a very demanding course. Making time for practice, doing gigs and marketing the band is sometimes very difficult. The problem is that I know that the band won't really bring in the bacon. At the most, it will hopefully augment whatever income I will be getting from my day job but I don't think it will ever be lucrative enough for me to to live comfortably on.

On the other hand, the reason I'm working my butt off is so that I can engage in activities I enjoy . . . like playing in a band. These activities provide a needed sanity break for me as I go through the daily grind of trying to get my degree and yet I find I have less and less time to do them. It has not gotten to the point that I have to give one up for the other and hopefully that time never arrives.

Our gig in Caliente was fun. We started around 8:15, sang 8 original songs and 2 covers. Thank you to all the people who came to the gig. I think LJ has some new fans . . .

My Band's Name is Mush Carnival. Here's an exceprt from our Band Profile:

Mush Carnival(formerly known as Ember) was formed in March 2003 through a series of seemingly orchestrated circumstances that led to a union of five souls hungry to express the music they had in themselves. Destiny began when Homer Yabut, a psychology professor at the De La Salle University, recruited two promising guitarists from his class, LJ Ortega and Brian Arcega, his relative Emman Paras, and his co-professor John to jam on some original songs and rock staples at the University Mall. The band then began to establish its name in DLSU by playing in organizational activities. John then had to leave for abroad, and was replaced by Eldhin Francisco as drummer, a high school acquaintance of Homer and Emman who came into the picture at the perfect time. What has transpired since then is a musical joyride full of chemistry and creativity. At present, Mush Carnival has several well-polished original songs, with others still being developed and a string of covers ranging from new wave to the alternative rock genre. The group has performed in places such as Freedom Bar, Kafe Katipunan, Mayrics, Rock 2 Metal and Libis (San Miguel Oktoberfest 2003)
